Gram Curry (Pattholi)















Ingredients

Broken peeled green gram dal
1 cup
Green chillies
2
Cumin seeds
1 ½ tsp
Bengal gram dal
½ tsp
Black mustard seeds
½ tsp
Curry leaves
1 stem
Oil
5 tbsp
Asafoetida
1 pinch
Chilli powder
1 tsp
Salt
to taste  


Soak the green gram for 3 hours. Grind with ¼ cup water. Add green chillies, 1 tsp. cumin seeds and salt and grind again.

Fry bengal gram dal, mustard seeds, ½ tsp. cumin seeds, curry leaves and asafetida. Add green gram mixture to the frying pan. Cook on low heat. Keep stirring so it does not get burnt. Add chilli powder. Stir. Remove when dry.

This curry is an unusual accompaniment with chapatis or rice.
