Mix together grated carrots, potatoes, chopped raisins, dates, nuts and sugar and butter. Mix together soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt and flour. Add to first mixture. Put into a greased bun tin. Steam for about 2 hours. Serve with vanilla sauce or hard sauce.

Vanilla sauce

Vanilla

Butter

Mix together sugar, cornflour and salt. Add boiling water. Cook until clear. Add vanilla and butter. Serve hot.

Hard sauce

Ingredients

Brown sugar

Whipped cream
¾ cup (180ml)
Vanilla
2 tsp
 
Cream butter. Add sugar gradually. Cream well. Fold in whipped cream and vanilla.
