Potato Ambat

Wash and boil the gram. (If gram is soaked for a couple of hours it will boil more easily). Peel and cut potatoes into large pieces. When gram is half cooked add potatoes. Boil till potatoes are soft. Add salt. Roast fenugreek using a little oil. Grind together coconut, red chillies, roasted fenugreek and tamarind to a fine paste. Add ground spices to gram and potatoes with sufficient liquid to barely cover solids. Boil till spices are cooked. Remove. Heat the oil. Fry finely chopped onions. When golden brown pour over ambat and mix well.
