Wash the red gram and boil with turmeric powder. Mash when it
tender. Wash and cut drumstick into 5 cm. pieces. Soak tamarind in 3 cups of
water for about half an hour, extract the juice and strain it. Add to the
tamarind juice, sambar powder, salt, asafoetida, curry leaves and drumstick and
boil for 2 minutes. Fry red chillies, fenugreek, coriander seeds and channa dal
in one teaspoon of oil and power finely. To the tamarind mixture, add this
finely powdered masala and then the cooked gram. Temper with mustard seeds and
mix well.
